ЁЯСЛ Hi everyone.
We are glad to announce the launch of FSHM Discuss, an online discussion forum for the active members of FSHM (i.e members who are part of one of the GLUGs under FSHM and have an active membership).
In the past, PuduvaiGLUG was only using mailing lists for discussions and later was using FSFTN's Discussion forum. FSFTN's discussion forum went down due to an unexpected server crash and the discussions since 2019 has been lost forever. The last backup available is only until 2018 and there is an ongoing effort to restore it back using Flarum.
Nevertheless, since the days of FSHM, all group discussions are happening in our Signal group. But as we know, instant messengers are not suitable for having long focused discussions or conversations where topics quickly deviate and eventually we lose focus and over the period discussions gets buried.
This is why we were looking for a discussion forum like this. FSFTN was using Discourse as the discussion forum. Though, Discourse is feature rich and have set a benchmark for forum software, it is simply heavy to run. Hence, we started exploring various lightweight alternatives to Discourse and viola! we stumbled upon Flarum, which is what this forum is running on.
Technical decisions aside, the main purpose of this forum is to enable long and meaningful conversations and discussions among the members of FSHM regarding the movement and it's activities. Any active members can start a discussion and tag their post under one of the primary & secondary tags or categories.
Whether you are looking for technical help regarding GNU/Linux installation or issues you face in OS or have something to share about FOSS, Open Hardware or want to participate in any of our activities, this is the place.
The discussion language in the forum can be bilingual (English & родрооро┐ро┤рпН - Tamil).
There are various tags or categories that you can explore. For eg:FSHM EventsFOSS & Digital CommonsCommunity ProjectsHelp MeTech + Labour + LawOpen Hardware, and more
You can explore and participate in the section that you are interested in. Thanks for reading and welcome to the forum! To reiterate, only active members can actively participate while the forum is read-only for rest of the world.
